Parent with a Purpose

Jennifer Milton's Preschool Story

July 3, 2017

Jennifer Milton is a Parent with a Purpose. She is the proud mother of a preschooler attending the Central Methodist Nursery School and she is advocating for the needs of the children attending this preschool. Here is her story:

"As a mom of a preschooler attending this school, a member of their school board, and a first-grade teacher I have been able to see all sides of how dedicated the Central Methodist Staff is to their job.  My son wakes up every morning asking if it is a preschool day, and is sad when it isn't.  They have created amazing memories for our family such as putting on a circus, living the day of a farm with animals visiting their school, numerous art projects, and the most important aspect LEARNING THROUGH PLAY!"

However, the center has a few needs to help better serve the children in its care:

"Central Methodist Nursery School is a nonprofit organization. The school has been serving the Stockton preschool community for 54 years, putting their heart and soul into helping their students. The current playground has been around for 23 years and is outdated, deteriorating and inconvenient to maintain. Due to the large oak trees that shade it, the redwood retaining wall around the play structures is rotting away and becoming unsafe for the children. The wood chips inside the wall stay moist with all of the shade which causes mushrooms and acorns to grow. The teachers take time out of their day to pick them to ensure the safety of the children during outside time. They have found a way to make it work for the past few years so the students and families can avoid funding this major project. They could do an easy fix and buy new wood chips and fix the wall, but helping them make a permanent fix of a better-suited playground will add more teacher time for students and a safer playground for the children. We would like to get the new poured rubber material which wears well, works better in the shade, and will prevent mushrooms and acorns from growing in it for the next 23 years. If your hearts are as big as the staff at Central Methodist Nursery School, please take some time to look at the gofundme link below and share with your friends and family.  The more we get our story out, the more likely our story will be heard.  Thank you for your support!
