Let me first start off by saying: I'm not adventuresome when it comes to my cooking habits. I have 2 picky boys and a husband who know what they like and usually stick to it. If I want to try something new I go to a restaurant and expand my horizons there. And though I work from home, dinner is still a pretty hectic business around my house. But last week was a little different for my family during the dinner hour.
When our Gobble, Inc box arrived the boys each picked the meal they wanted to help prepare for the week. They were skeptical about their choices, though: Thai Pork Stir Fry, Chicken a L'Orange, and Huaraches (Corn Masa Cakes). Nothing super fancy for some families, but for mine, this was a stretch. And the gamble paid off! The family is already asking, "When do we get our next Gobble?". We went ahead and made Gobble a part of weekly meal planning. Let me tell you why:
Gobble does the prep for you. Ingredients are measured, labeled, thawed, and most are pre-cut. My biggest deterrent to trying new recipes is having to buy 7 new ingredients and spices I might never use again and then there is all the prep work involved. Gobble just made it so easy, they lived up to their "10 minutes,1 pan, 3 steps" slogan.
Every night we had portion-controlled and kid-approved meals. I come from a large family. I'm not great at cooking just enough for a family of four. I tend to have left-overs or we eat more than the recommended portion size. With Gobble, we had perfect portions for each member and no left-overs. Every plate was licked clean, the 6 and 16-year-old were no exception.
Gourmet can now mean stress-free, fun, and delicious in my home. I can't tell you just how giddy I was at how beautiful our meals looked every night. Even my youngest took pride in serving his daddy a plate, bragging to him that he chopped the green beans and basil leaves. After a full work day, it felt great to still have the time provide these healthy gourmet meals to my family and cook with the boys in a stress-free environment. I actually enjoyed cooking!
When I find an awesome life hack, I usually stick to it. Why wouldn't I make my life easier?! I use a wrinkle release spray instead of ironing, I use vinegar in my wash to get rid of odors in clothes, I feed my flowers my left-over coffee and tea, and now I will subscribe to Gobble to make dinnertime an enjoyable family routine.
